When remodeling or constructing a new home pick up scrap pieces of wood that will make great signs. My mother was my official “sign painter”. Mother made me a sign on an old frying pan that I still have many years later……when you jump out of the frying pan…..try not to hit the fire. Boy have I lived that saying a bunch of times. I made mother a list of about 150 sayings and she would spend her spare time painting signs that we sold in our shop for many years. She enjoyed the time she spent doing this and I love to see folks reactions when they read the signs. Mother lost her battle with cancer in 2002 but I still have many signs she painted me. I also have some beautiful art work she gave me as gifts. Believe me the greatest gift you can give is to give part of yourself. Mother was great at doing that. A poem, a painting or a wonderful homemade cake. Share yourself.
I learned this many years ago from my Granny Gilreath. She had nothing material to share and no money but the banana puddings she made me will stand up against any diamond ring I have today. Remember, give of yourself. The best gift ever.
